Active Fire Talks
Do you have an active fire emergency in your area?
Use this resource to effectively communicate with your 5 to 12+ year old children about what is happening and how they are experiencing it.
When your children have the opportunity to share their thoughts, feelings and concerns they have the capability to metabolize these events rather than be traumatized by them.
Follow the instructions below to provide your children the sense of security, peace and understanding they need at this time.

TALK 1: Thankful For Our Great City
As you and your child watch what is happening in your area you no doubt are thankful for the heroes helping and fighting the fires! Thankfulness is a strong emotion that will help each of us process the fear and sadness of what is happening. In this 1st TALK you will hear why your child is thankful for where they live. From there, you can begin processing some of the tragedy that is occurring.
TALK 2: Staying Strong and Calm
When you take the time to talk with your child about this crisis they are able to 'make sense' of it and not become overwhelmed. In this 2nd TALK you will have the opportunity to listen to your child's thoughts, feelings and understandings about what is happening and what they are experiencing. Well done parents for addressing this with your child!
TALK 3: We Will Overcome
This 3rd TALK with your child will inject hope into your situation. You will talk about your First Responders who are some of the best in the country and the many others who are helping in any way they can. You and your child will be challenged to do what you can to help all of us overcome!
